Adieu, Nautilus Moon Phase 5712? What the future holds for this legend

Lena Krüger

One of the most prestigious names in watchmaking, Patek Philippe has produced some of the world's most famous timepieces over the past decades. Among its many remarkable creations, the Patek Philippe Nautilus Moon Phase with reference 5712 is undoubtedly one of the brand's most iconic watch models.

However, in the wake of the Watches & Wonders fair this year, there are rumours that Patek Philippe is planning to cease production of this legendary watch. Speculation about what this means for the market and watch lovers is rife.

A watch with history

The Nautilus range was launched in 1976 and was a revolutionary development at the time. The designer of the Nautilus, Gérald Genta, was commissioned to create a watch that was both elegant and robust, suitable for use in sports. The Nautilus quickly became a cult classic and a status symbol.

The Moon Phase reference 5712 is one of the most popular Nautilus models and features a variety of functions, including a moon phase indicator, date display, second hand and power reserve indicator. The design of this watch is a masterpiece that leaves an unparalleled impression with its distinctive dial, precise proportions and unique bezel shape.

How much truth is behind the rumours?

There is a lot of speculation about why Patek Philippe might stop production of the Nautilus Moon Phase reference 5712. Whatever the exact reason is, if Patek Philippe were to actually stop production of this timepiece, it would undoubtedly be a loss for the luxury watch market and especially for collectors. The watch is a classic and a symbol of excellence in the Swiss watch industry. But so far there has been no official confirmation from Patek Philippe on these rumours. It therefore remains unclear whether or not this model will really be discontinued.

The consequences

For watch enthusiasts, the possible discontinuation of the Patek Philippe Nautilus Moon Phase could mean that they will have to hurry to acquire this watch before it is no longer available. The reference is a sought-after watch that will only take on more value if discontinued. We look forward to the Watches & Wonders fair, which takes place this year in Geneva from 27 March to 02 April, and hopefully will provide more clarity regarding the hotly debated rumours.
